You can also set your own parameters for carbs/protein/fat targets based on whatever diet you want to follow, and can reset it to another diet whenever you choose. That is an ingenious feature, I would have had trouble trying to do those calculations myself. Cronometer Gold lets you choose from different diet plans (the Zone is 40/30/30 carbs/protein/fat) and if you choose one of the preset diet options, it automatically calculates the target percentage of carbs/fats/protein you can consume each day and you can see how you are doing in real-time as you input your food. I decided recently to try the Zone diet because although I'm at my ideal weight, I want to reduce fat intake which causes a lot of health problems. ]You also see how much your exercise intersects with your consumption, and how many more calories you can eat over your baseline based on that day's exercise, without gaining weight. That was a real motivator for me to keep going with the program. You can easily call up graphs of how much weight you lost, how your consumption of saturated fats (or other things) changed over time, etc. It's inspiring to see your trends in Gold. I have shrunk my body mass index by choosing the "lose 5 lb a week option," gained a lot of energy and reduced my dependence on supplements (which are more expensive than food). By figuring out this way which foods are my personal superfoods (I'm a vegetarian) that I can eat every day. It helped me get off most of my vitamin supplements because it became easy to figure out which foods meet my nutritional requirements (through the Oracle function, where if you are low in, say, potassium you can easily get a list of foods that are high in potassium that you can then use to boost your stats, same for every other nutrient). One frustration was that if you changed a recipe it changed it in prior days in your diary - some people brought it up and there was a work around, but already this week I notice that when you save a new version of a recipe it gives you choices to apply backward or not - very useful and actually more choices than was originally requested. The recipe function is great and the sorting of meals - copy paste - graphs - so much more are so appreciated. other functions because I sprung for the $5 bucks right away - but I would now be lost without it.
